How to set up and use your Purpl digital membership card

7 min readUpdated 9 September 2026

The Purpl digital membership card lets subscribed Purpl members access selected in-store disability discounts.

Your digital membership card is available through the Purpl Discounts app and acts as proof of your active Purpl membership when using participating in-store offers.

Once your card is set up, you can open an eligible in-store offer in the app, reveal the relevant membership card and show it at the till.

What is the Purpl digital membership card?

The Purpl digital membership card is your in-app proof of Purpl membership for participating in-store offers.

Your membership card displays:

  • Your name
  • Your photograph
  • Your membership expiry date
  • Whether you are the disabled member or a parent/carer
  • The participating brand
  • The barcode, QR code or other information needed for that particular in-store offer

The card is included within your Purpl membership at no additional cost.

Important: The card is only needed for offers specifically marked as in-store offers. You do not need your digital card to use normal Purpl online discount codes or online offers.

Before you set up your Purpl membership card

Before starting, make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Purpl Discounts app.

You will also need a clear photograph of yourself showing your full face and neck, similar to a passport-style photograph.

Please choose your photograph carefully. Once you confirm your membership card photo, you cannot currently change it yourself.

If you joined Purpl before June 2025, you may also be asked to confirm whether:

  • You are the disabled person; or
  • You are joining as a parent or carer.

The name on the account should be the name of the person whose photograph appears on the membership card.

If the wrong name is showing, update your details in your Purpl profile before setting up the card.

How do I set up my Purpl digital membership card?

Follow these steps in the Purpl app:

  1. Open the latest version of the Purpl Discounts app.
  2. Tap the person/profile icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down to Membership Card setup.
  4. Select either Take a Selfie or Upload a Photo.
  5. Choose a clear photograph showing your full face and neck.
  6. Position your photograph so it fills the required area. Make sure the photo is larger than the purple outline so that your face is not accidentally cropped.
  7. Check the photograph carefully.
  8. Tick the box confirming that you understand the photo cannot be changed once submitted.
  9. Tap Use This Photo.
  10. Your Purpl digital membership card is now set up and ready for participating in-store offers.

Purpl Tip: Take a moment to check the photograph before pressing Use This Photo. You will not be able to go back and replace it afterwards.

Do I need to verify my disability again to set up my card?

No.

If your Purpl membership is already verified and active, you do not need to upload your disability evidence again simply because you are setting up your membership card.

In your profile you may see information showing the expiry date of the document currently linked to your membership. Only update your verification when Purpl asks you to do so as part of your membership or verification process.

How do I use my Purpl digital membership card in a shop?

The digital membership card is used for offers specifically labelled as in-store on Purpl.

To use an in-store offer:

  1. Open the Purpl Discounts app.
  2. Go to Profile using the navigation at the bottom of the app.
  3. Select View Membership Card.
  4. Choose the in-store offer you want to use.
  5. Read the offer information and terms before purchasing.
  6. Tap Reveal Membership Card.
  7. Show the membership card displayed on your phone to the member of staff at the till.
  8. Follow the individual retailer's instructions to apply your discount.

Depending on the retailer, staff may scan a barcode or QR code or visually check your valid Purpl membership.

Each retailer's offer works slightly differently, so always read the instructions and offer terms before paying.

Why does my membership card look different for different shops?

This is normal.

Your Purpl digital membership card changes depending on the in-store offer you are using. It may display the retailer's branding and a different barcode, QR code or offer information.

This is why you should always open the relevant offer through the Purpl app rather than relying on a previous screenshot.

Can I save my Purpl membership card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

No. The Purpl membership card cannot currently be downloaded to your phone wallet as a permanent card.

This is because the information displayed can change depending on the retailer and the in-store offer you are using.

Always access the live card through the Purpl Discounts app when you are ready to use your discount.

Can I take a screenshot of my Purpl membership card?

We recommend opening the live membership card through the Purpl app when using an in-store offer.

Different offers can generate different card information, barcodes or QR codes, so an old screenshot may not be valid for the offer you are trying to use.

Do I need mobile data or Wi-Fi to use the Purpl card?

You will normally need an internet connection when opening an in-store offer and revealing your membership card.

The app needs to retrieve the current information or unique code associated with the offer.

If you know mobile signal is poor inside a particular shop, try opening the Purpl app and checking the offer before you reach the checkout, while you still have a connection.

Do I need to explain my disability to shop staff?

No.

Your Purpl membership has already been verified through Purpl. You should not need to explain your disability, diagnosis or health condition to retail staff when using a Purpl in-store discount.

The digital membership card shows that you have a valid Purpl membership.

Can a parent or carer use the Purpl digital membership card?

Yes, where they have joined Purpl as the parent or carer and their Purpl membership is valid.

The membership card identifies whether the account holder is the disabled member or a parent/carer.

The person whose name and photograph appear on the digital card should be the person using it.

Always check the individual offer terms because retailer conditions can vary.

Which shops accept the Purpl digital membership card?

The card only works with retailers that have a participating Purpl in-store offer.

Not every brand on Purpl offers an in-store discount.

You can see available in-store offers through the Purpl app. Always open the individual offer to check:

  • Where it can be used
  • Any participating-store restrictions
  • What products are included or excluded
  • Whether there is a minimum spend
  • How the discount is applied
  • Any other retailer-specific terms

My Purpl membership card isn't showing. What should I do?

First check:

  1. You are signed into the correct Purpl account.
  2. Your Purpl membership is active.
  3. You have downloaded the latest version of the Purpl Discounts app.
  4. You have completed the Membership Card setup in your profile.
  5. You have an internet connection.
  6. You are trying to access an offer that is actually available in-store.

If the card is still not appearing, contact the Purpl support team.

My membership card won't load in the shop

If your card will not load:

  • Check your mobile data or Wi-Fi connection.
  • Close and reopen the Purpl app.
  • Check that you are using the latest version of the app.
  • Reopen the relevant in-store offer.
  • Check the offer terms to make sure the store and purchase are eligible.

If you are still having problems, contact Purpl Support and include as much information as possible about the retailer and offer.

A screenshot of any error message can also help our team investigate the issue.

Can I use my Purpl digital card for online offers?

You don't need it.

Purpl's online offers normally work through a discount code or special tracked link.

The digital membership card is specifically designed to access participating in-store Purpl offers.
