Disabled Railcard - how to upload your card or digital railcard for verification

2 min readUpdated 7 August 2026

Photograph your Disabled Persons Railcard showing the whole card and a future expiry date. If yours is a digital railcard, we require two images as detailed below.

Step 1: Take a photo of your Disabled Persons Railcard or Digital Railcard

Please read the following advice to ensure you provide us with the correct information.

If you have a physical railcard

The photo must show:

  • the whole card
  • a valid card that has not expired
  • your name and photo
  • your railcard number
If you have a digital railcard

You are not able to a screenshot of a full digital railcard, you will need to take a photo of it with another device.

The photo must show the full digital railcard:

  • your photo
  • your name
  • your badge number
  • your expiry date
  • the QR code

If you cannot do that then take a screenshot of what you can and then take a 2nd photo:

  • A screenshot of your Disabled Railcard account showing your disabled railcard order details including badge number, expiry date and your full name

Upload one photo first, after it fails go back and add the 2nd photo - these will then both be send through for manual verification.

Step 2 - Review this checklist before you upload

Check your photo:

  • shows whole railcard
  • shows your full name
  • shows your photo
  • shows your railcard badge number
  • shows the railcard expiry date
  • shows the QR code if digital card
  • has nothing else is in the photo - just the railcard as above example
  • the text is legible to you

Step 3 - Upload your photo

In most cases a photo of a physical railcard taken correctly will be automatically approved.

You will automatically be taken to the payment screen to complete your Purpl membership subscription.

For digital railcards you will likely require manual review. We will let you know when you have been approved or if we require further details.

Tips on how to take a good photo

  • Good light, and no flash - the flash reflects off the badge surface
  • Badge flat on a surface, camera directly above it
  • Check every line of text is legible before uploading

My disabled railcard photo failed, what shall I do next?

Please do not upload the same photo again - it will fail.

Check the checklist above and then retake.

All failed documents go through to manual review and we will contact you with the reasons why or if it was due to the lighting and we were able to approve it manually you will receive a Welcome email.
