Discount Card for Disabled People: How Purpl’s New Digital Membership Card Works

We’re launching something many members have been waiting for, Purpl’s new digital discount card for disabled people and carers, available through the Purpl Discounts app. This marks the beginning of our first ever in-store disability discounts, giving members even more ways to save on everyday essentials, mobility aids, personal care items, clothing, home products and more.
As the cost of living continues to rise for disabled people and anyone with a long-term health condition, this new feature brings disability discounts directly into the real world rather than limiting savings to online shopping alone.
And now, our first in-store partners go live from 1 December 2025. We’re reaching a fantastic milestone in our mission to help people with disabilities and long-term health conditions save money and offset the extra costs they face every month.
At a glance
- Purpl has launched a new digital discount card for disabled people and carers, available inside the Purpl Discounts app, to unlock in-store disability discounts across everyday essentials, mobility aids, personal care, clothing, homeware and more.
- The card acts as proof of Purpl membership in-store, showing a member’s name, photo, expiry date and whether they are disabled or a parent/carer, along with the brand logo and barcode/QR code for each in-store offer.
- Setting up the card takes a few steps in the app, including uploading a clear, passport-style headshot in the Profile area; once confirmed, the photo cannot be changed, so it needs to be selected carefully.
- Using the card in-store is designed to be simple and discreet: members open the app, choose an in-store offer, reveal the membership card and show it at the till for an instant saving, without needing to explain their condition.
- The first in-store offers go live from 1 December 2025 in selected partner stores, with more supermarkets, mobility retailers, homeware brands and health and wellness chains planned as the programme expands.
- The digital membership card is included in Purpl membership at no extra cost, works across the UK only, and requires basic mobile connectivity (such as 3G) at the checkout to fetch the unique code for each offer.
- Purpl positions the card as part of its mission to reduce the “disability price gap”, acknowledging research that disabled households face significant extra monthly costs and aiming to provide fairer, more accessible savings both online and in-store.

What is the New Purpl Digital Membership Card?
The Purpl Digital Membership Card gives you instant proof of membership for in-store Purpl discounts. It sits safely inside the Purpl app. The card displays your photo, name and expiry date. It also shows whether you are disabled or a parent or carer of a disabled person.
Once you set up your card, you can then view in-store offers as they appear. After that, the digital card updates with the brand logo. It also shows the barcode or QR code you need in the store.
Finally, the digital card is available only through the Purpl Discounts app. You must download the latest version before you set up your card.

Things to Note Before Setting Up Your Purpl Card
If you joined Purpl before June 2025 you likely didn’t select whether you are the disabled person or a carer/parent. If so, the app will prompt you to choose the correct option before you set up your card.
You may also have put the person you care for name rather than your own, in which case you will need to log on to the website and change the name in the profile section. The name needs to reflect the person whose photo will be on the card. The photo can’t be changed so you need to ensure this is correct.
How to Set Up The Membership Card
To set up the Purpl Discounts Digital Membership Card please read the following steps, or you can watch our video on YouTube if you prefer to see visually how to set it up..
Important – You cannot change your photo once uploaded. Make sure you select the photo carefully and check it before pressing ‘Use This Photo’
Step 1: Download the latest version of the Purpl Discounts App.
Step 2: Go to the profile section of the app. Click on the person symbol at the top right of the screen.
Step 3: Scroll down to ‘Membership Card setup’.
Step 4: A screen will come asking you to ‘Take a Selfie’ or ‘Upload a Photo’. You need to have a photo similar to a passport photo showing your full face and neck.
Step 5: Select photo or take a selfie
Step 6: Position the chosen photo in the frame ensuring your face and neck are showing clearly.
Step 7: Double-check that your image is correct — you can’t change it after you upload it.
Step 8: Tick the box to confirm you understand that the photo cannot be changed.
Step 9: Click the ‘Use This Photo’ to confirm you are happy.
Step 10: Your membership card is ready to use for when In-store offers are available.

How It Works: Using Your Card In-Store
You will need to use your digital membership card when taking advantage of an ‘in-store offer’ – you will also be able to see these offers by going to your card on the app.
This video shows you how to use the card to get a disability discount in-store.
Using your digital card is incredibly easy. Just follow these steps:
- Open the Purpl App and go to My Offers (3rd button along the bottom of the app).
- Select ‘View Membership Card’.
- Choose an in-store offer from the pop-up list (list will appear once in-store offers are added to Purpl).
- Open the offer card to read the terms and tap the purple ‘Reveal Membership Card’ button at the bottom of the screen.
- Show your membership card at the till so the staff member can scan it or check it visually.
- The store applies your saving instantly — no codes, no hassle and no need to explain your condition.
Where Can You Use The Purpl Membership Card?
Our first in-store offers go live next week (1st December 2025), with launch partners who want to make shopping more affordable and inclusive for disabled customers.
We’ll reveal the first stores shortly, and members will see them appear in the app with any terms listed.
This is just the beginning — we’re already in discussions with supermarkets, mobility retailers, homeware brands and health & wellness chains.
Why This Matters for the Disabled Community
Disability comes with unavoidable extra costs, Scope’s 2025 ‘Disability Price Tag’ research estimates disabled households face around £1,095 a month in extra costs. Extra costs come from higher energy costs, equipment costs (e.g. wheelchairs, mobility aids, stair lifts), travel costs (e.g. taxis to medical appointments), carers, therapy sessions (e.g. hydrotherapy, physical therapy), specialist food and many other costs that add up.
In-store shopping can sometimes be more accessible than online, especially for people who have vision impairments but also for others it is the only time they get out and about.
The digital membership card:
- Offers real-world savings on items you can pick up today
- Supports independent living by making essential products more affordable
- Closes part of the disability price gap with simple, instant, inclusive access
It’s a huge step towards making everyday shopping more equal.
Final Thoughts
The digital membership card is a major milestone in Purpl’s mission to reduce the disability price gap and give disabled people fairer access to everyday savings — online and in-store.
Our first in-store partners go live next week, and we will be adding more. We’re creating a much wider movement that champions fairness, dignity and real financial support.
Purpl members deserve the same convenience, respect and affordability as everyone else, and this digital card helps move us closer to that goal.
“Launching our first in-store disability discounts is a huge milestone for Purpl. Our new digital membership card brings our mission into everyday shopping, helping our community save money instantly at the checkout. Online shopping isn’t accessible for everyone, so giving people the option to save in-store is so important. Disabled people face unavoidable extra costs, and creating real ways to offset that pressure has always been our mission.”
