The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will increase most disability-related benefits by 1.7%, based on September 2024’s CPI inflation rate. It may look small, but when you’re living on a fixed income, every penny counts.
Who’s Getting The Increase — And How Much?
Benefit | Annual Boost |
---|---|
PIP (Personal Independence Payment) | Enhanced daily living & mobility could see an extra £780 annually |
Attendance Allowance | Higher rate +£455/year; lower +£304 |
Carer’s Allowance | Around +£300/year; some carers may see up to £780 when combined with Universal Credit |
ESA (Support group) | Approx +£400/year; up to £780 if combined with PIP |
Meanwhile, state pensions rise by 4.1%, and Universal Credit monthly rates increase to around £316 (under 25) or £400 (25+). Other benefits like Child Benefit and Pension Credit also increase.
Why Now? A Nudge, Not A Windfall
This is not a one-off payment — it’s a gradual uplift spread across the year. Based on the UK government’s triple-lock and CPI guidance, it’s meant to protect against rising costs — though charities say the increase is still below the actual cost of living rise.
Still, extra money for disability and carer-related benefits is a much-needed recognition. Combined benefits boosts can total up to £780, offering tangible support for families and individuals managing health-related challenges.
What Action Do You Need To Take?
You don’t — the rise is automatic, and no extra application is needed . Just check:
- Your award notices after mid-April
- Your bank statements for updated payment amounts
- Any correspondence from the DWP confirming the rate change
If You Don’t See The Change…
Don’t wait — contact the DWP or your benefit helpline right away. For example:
- PIP helpline: 0800 121 4433
- Carer’s Allowance: 0800 731 0297
- ESA helpdesk: 0800 169 0310

Final Thought
This isn’t the big cost-of-living reset everyone wants. But for people on disability and carer benefits, every extra pound eases the pressure. With boosts up to £780 per year, it’s a step in the right direction.
